Tennis legend Serena “Serena” Williams has spoken about the importance of playing for the UK’s top female player.
In her new book, The Queen’s Tennis Dreams: The Life of a Female Tennis Player, Williams says she’s not sure what she’d do if the world tennis circuit wasn’t so much a sporting destination as it is a political one.
“I’ve never thought about how much money the sport would make in the UK if there wasn’t any male and female tennis players,” she writes.
“In my mind, it’s an opportunity for all of us to have a life, to go on a holiday and meet people who are like-minded and have different values and aspirations.
I’m sure there’s a lot of people out there who are just as passionate about tennis as I am, and they’re also looking forward to having a go at it.
Serene Williams’ book has been published by Atlantic Books, priced £15.99.
