Chinese social media manager arrested after tweeting racist comments on Instagram

A Chinese social networking manager has been arrested after posting racist comments about President Xi Jinping on Instagram.

The tweets were sent after Xi’s official visit to Beijing last week.

The posts included anti-Chinese slogans and images of Chinese soldiers in China, a Chinese language video posted on December 3 showed.

China’s Ministry of Public Security said the posts were not “illegal” and had been deleted.

China has become one of the top Internet markets for Chinese social networks, with nearly 1.4 billion users, and a strong Chinese language presence on the platforms.

China also has an increasingly vocal nationalist and pro-democracy opposition in the country.
